Most of LACD’s work is refurbishment, which means changing a building that is already standing and often occupied, listed or surrounded by neighbours. A good refurbishment depends on understanding the existing structure and services before anything is removed, then sequencing the work so structure, services and finishes are each done once.
What we refurbish
Houses and apartments
Full refurbishments of period and modern homes: new layouts, structural alterations, rewiring and replumbing, heating and ventilation, kitchens, bathrooms, joinery and decoration.
Listed and conservation-area properties
Refurbishment that keeps historic fabric: cornices, floors, staircases, windows and joinery, with listed building consent and services routed around what must stay.
Offices and commercial space
Office refurbishment, Cat A and Cat B fit-out, and retail and hospitality interiors. See office fit-outs.
Kitchens and bathrooms
Kitchen and bathroom renovations as stand-alone projects or as part of a wider refurbishment, including plumbing, electrics, tanking and bespoke joinery.
How we run a refurbishment
- Survey and opening up: confirm the structure, services and condition before the design is fixed.
- Structural design: beams, openings and strengthening designed for the building as it actually is.
- Strip-out and first fix: structure, then services, while walls and floors are open.
- Finishes and joinery: plastering, floors, kitchens, bathrooms, joinery and decoration.
- Handover: testing, certificates, building control sign-off and a defects period.
